Embraport receives the inaugural voyage of the largest container ship to reach the Brazilian coast

Embraport, one of Brazil’s biggest and most modern private port terminals, situated on the left bank of the Port of Santos, welcomes this Friday (September 6) the CMA CGM Tigris, the largest container ship to sail the Brazilian coast.  The operation is expected to include 2,394 unloading operations, moving approximately 4 thousand TEUs.

The ship is on its maiden voyage and arrives in Santos for the first time as part of the Asia service, which connects Brazil to the Far East through a partnership with eight other shipowners (Hamburg Sud, Maersk Line, Safmarine, CSAV, China Shipping Container Lines, Hanjin, Hapag Lloyd and CCNI).

Built at the NTS (New Times Shipbuildings) shipyard in Jiangsu, China, the ship set sail in December and has called at the ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Singapore and Port Kelang.  In Brazil, apart from Santos, the ship will stop over at the Ports of Paranaguá (Paraná), Rio Grande (Rio Grande do Sul) and Itapoá (Santa Catarina), in addition to the Ports of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay.

At 300 meters long, 48.2 meters wide and capable of carrying 10,900 TEUs, the ship is also equipped with 1,458 outlets for reefer containers.
